Project goal

 The aim of the project is to assess and respond to migration and demographic challenges in order to foster sustainable development and inclusive society in Latvia.

Project activities

WP 6 "Higher education-based strategies for tackling human capital loss"

Highly skilled migration is seen as one of the key elements for the inclusive growthand innovations. The departure of highly skilled professionals (braindrain), as well as high emigration of young people, who do not return after getting higher education abroad, results in significant development threats and financial losses.

Identifying the potential of higher education institutions to address demographic challenges;

Identifying key factors that affect the attraction and retention of educated individual sand qualified human capital

Research on improving the professional competence of teachers for the integration and preservation of talented students

Project results

  • Academically, the project will contribute to the existing field of demography, migration and regional studies by creating new findings from both theoretical and empirical perspectives;
  • the dissemination of research results to the scientific world and to the institutions of public administrations that operates for policy development;
  • the discussions and open debate with civil society and the general public;
  • in order to achieve a greater impact on the national audience, a scientific monograph in Latvian is also intended.
