Collaboration with Mittweida University of Applied Sciences began several years ago in the field of laser technology thanks to Prof. Dr.sc.ing., Leading Researcher of the RTA Institute of Engineering, Lyubomir Lazov. The collaboration has resulted in the development of a joint master`s study programme "Laser Technologies". The programme attracts foreign students, and three graduation ceremonies have already been celebrated. Two international summer schools, organized together with German laser equipment manufacturers, have taken place in Rezekne. The Laser Center at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences led by Professor Dr.ing. Horst Exner has supported RTA by providing laser equipment, as well as conducting training for our staff in the early stages of laser technology development. Several joint projects have also been developed. We are pleased that each ERASMUS+ mobility is used in targeted manner, expanding collaboration opportunities and gaining new knowledge and experience which may later be used at RTA. Ten representatives of the Faculty of Engineering took part in this mobility - professors, lecturers, leading researchers, researchers, engineers, and laboratory assistants. During the visit to mechatronics laboratories, the appliance of artificial intelligence in robotics was discussed. RTA engineers have come up with many new ideas which we could implement in Rezekne and turn into real projects in collaboration with researchers.
German colleagues are interested in the development of laser technology at RTA and expressed an interest in establishing a doctoral study programme "Laser Technology" at RTA. The programme is being developed within the ESF project "The reduction of fragmentation of the study programmes and strengthening the sharing of the resources in the study directions "Management, administration and real estate management" and "Mechanics and metalworking, heat power industry, heat engineering and mechanical engineering" at Rezekne Academy of Technologies", No. 22.214.171.124/18/A/016, in collaboration with "Angel Kanchev" University of Ruse (Bulgaria). German colleagues are ready to provide counselling and, if necessary, basis for scientific research.
During the visit, once again, we obtained assurance that it is important to choose the right strategic partners and maintain collaboration relationships.
