“Engineering Days 2018” started with robotics championship

Monday, 21. May
The traditional event Engineering Days at Rezekne Academy of Technologies (RTA) this year was already organized for the 22nd time. Trying to preserve traditions and keeping up the current trends, students and academic staff of the faculty of Engineering worked almost half a year on the main event of the faculty Engineering Days.

This year, Engineering Days hosted guests from Pskov University - 16 students under the leadership of two lecturers, as well as students from the Eastern Latvia Technology High School. The novelty of Engineering Days 2018 was the Latvian Robotics Championship RTA 2018, which was organized in cooperation with the Rezekne Municipality Council. RTA lecturer Dainis Kļaviņš points out that the idea of organizing a robotics championship arose two years ago, when the RTA master's student Kārlis Pīgoznis suggested organizing drone competitions.

In agreement with the organizers of the Latvian Robotics Championship, attracting supporters and volunteers, the championship was successfully held on 22 April at the Malta Multifunctional Hall. The participants and visitors pointed out, the event was organized at a high level, and the race was running smoothly throughout the day in 13 disciplines. The number of participants was about 300 from all over Latvia and Lithuania. The competition video record is available on the robotics championship home page http://latvianroboticchampionship.lv/latvianroboticchampionship/.

Smoothly went also ship competition, in which nearly 30 floating structures took part. On the cool but sunny day of the race, the participants were supported by spectators. It is gratifying that most of the participants were Rezekne and Rezekne students. It is encouraging that most of the participants were students from Rezekne and Rezekne municipality

On 25 April, the participants of the 22nd Students International Scientific Practical Conference Human. Environment. Technology presented their scientific research in two parallel sections. The total number of participants was about 60, representing RTA, Latvian Maritime Academy, Daugavpils University (Latvia), Pskov State University (Russia). Students study various technological processes, solve climate change mitigation options, and seek solutions for waste management, offer information technology and artificial intelligence in different areas of our life.

More than ten teams competed in the Intermediate School Erudite. At the end of the week such events as alumni meeting, Big Cleanup (Lielā talka), and the closing event of technical creativity classes for Rezekne municipality students took place.

Many thanks to the students, lecturers, RTA staff, volunteers, partners and supporters for the contribution to the Engineering Days 2018!
