During the meeting, Angelika Juško-Štekele, Vice-Rector for Studies at RTA, informed about study process, study programmes implemented, and cooperation with municipalities, entrepreneurs, and other partners. Ērika Teirumnieka, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, gave a brief insight into the history of the RTA, highlighting international activities. Velta Ļubkina, Director of Research Institute for Regional Studies, informed about the experience in the field of projects, with particular emphasis on the activities of the ongoing project which is being implemented in cooperation with Canadian universities. Iluta Arbidāne, Senate Chair, emphasized the collaboration with FRONTEX, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, and the implementation of the joint master`s study programme “Strategic Border management”.
K.Rex thanked the RTA for the hospitality and welcomed cooperation between Latvia and Canada, highlighting the Memorandum of Understanding between the Latvian and Canadian governments on enhanced defence partnership and security cooperation.
The guests visited laboratories located in the Faculty of Engineering and get an insight into the research activities of the RTA`s staff and students. Pāvels Cacivkins, Engineer at the Physical Processes and Laser Technology Research Centre (RTA), revealed the opportunities of students to apply theoretical knowledge in practice.
Canadian delegation`s visit was concluded with a lecture on military engineering by Maj John Dempsey, Task Force Latvia Headquarters, Canadian Armed Forces.
