Training for students of the joint master’s degree programme Strategic Border Management at RTA has been completed successfully

From 20 to 24 November at Rezekne Academy of Technologies (RTA) training for students of European joint master’s degree in European Strategic Border Management were organized. 23 middle- and upper level officers and academic staff from 16 different EU countries came to study with aim to implement study module Leadership and Organization Development in the border guard.

The training began with the opening ceremony in which addresses were delivered by Edmunds Teirumnieks, rector of RTA, Angelika Juško-Štekele, vice rector for studies, and Iveta Mietule, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management. Daina Znotina, module supervisor, introduced the aim of the study module, study results, evaluation system and informed about other topical issues related to the study process.

Under the supervision of highly qualified academic staff and field professionals from Spain, Slovenia, Italy, and Ireland, the students acquired thorough knowledge and shared their personal experience on topics such as organizational culture and development, leadership in the organization, change management, etc.

The participants of the training had an opportunity to visit Terehova border control point, which is the border control point of the EU external border with Russia. They also visited the State Border Guard College and the Border Guard Museum, canine demonstration, as well as gain an insight into the city of Rezekne and the culture and traditions of Latgale taking part in the excursion prepared by Rezekne Tourism Information Centre.

The European joint master’s programme Strategic Border Management is an international study programme implemented in Latvia by Rezekne Academy of Technologies together with five higher education institutions: Estonian Academy of Security Sciences, Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), Netherlands Defence Academy, National University for Distance-Learning Education (Spain), and University of Salamanca (Spain).

Currently, two students from Latvia are studying at the programme- Inspector of the Border Guard and Immigration Control Service of the State Border Guard (SBG) Ludza border unit, Major Raimonds Kublickis and Deputy Head of the Ventspils Administration (Maritime Affairs), Lieutenant Colonel Raimonds Garais.
