The international University Sports Federation (FISU) organises the World University Games (the Universiade) every two years in a different city. This competition, an international sporting and cultural event, is believed to be the ultimate dream for university athletes worldwide. It is one of the highest-profile international sporting events, second only to the Olympic Games, in terms of the variety of competitions and the number of participating countries and athletes. The 2017 Summer Universiade was held in Taipei City, Taiwan from the 19th to 30th August.

This is not the only Gunta`s achievement. This year has been especially successful as Gunta has reached really good results.

On 6 August 2017 at the 16th IAAF World Athletics Championships in London Gunta was the fastest European in Women's 400 with a personal best 51.37.

On 15 July 2017 Gunta became the winner of European U23 400m race in Poland where she won her 400m race with 52.00s. It should be noted, that Gunta set a new personal record and it is the best result in European U23 400m group.

This year Gunta has repeatedly broken her own 200m record and on 11 June 2017 at the 23rd State President’s Prize in Athletics she won her 200m race with 23.50s setting her personal record and breaking the distance record held by a Russian athlete for 19 years.

Rezekne Academy of Technologies is proud of Gunta and wishes her good luck in the future.
